Q: 1. Do I need a valid 'Picture Stock Press Pass' in order to receive 'Photo Assignments' from Picture Stock?

A: Yes, a valid 'Picture Stock Press Pass' is required in order for us to process your application for 'Photo Assignments.' If you do not order a Picture Stock Press Pass at the time you submit your 'Photo Assignment Application Form', we will send you a letter to advise you, however, this will delay the application process considerably.

Q: 2. How many 'Photo Assignments' can I expect to receive if I am registered with your 'Photo Assignment Desk'?

A: Photo assignments are handed out to photographers on an assignment availability basis. When a magazine/newspaper editor or client is looking for pictures that our sales offices do not have on file or when news breaks and editors require news pictures from a scene fast, they will contact our 'Photo Assignment Desk' looking for photographers. We will then search our database for a photographer available to cover the assignment. Work experience, location of photographer, photographer availability, equipment on hand, number of published photos and other factors are looked at before a photo assignment is issued. Our clients expect professional work and this is why they contact Picture Stock. It is extremely important that the right photographer covers the requested assignment. Based on the above criteria, it is difficult to say exactly how many assignments any one photographer can expect to receive.

Q: 3. How much will I earn covering an assignment for Picture Stock?

A: Our current pay scale for our assignment photographers is $250-$750 US per photo shoot plus any expenses depending on how long the assignment takes and what equipment the photographer has on hand. If you own a digital camera and can transmit an image directly to a magazine or newspaper newsroom, especially if it is time sensitive, you will be paid the premium top rate. For spot news events, you may need a laptop computer and a cell phone in order to transmit images immediately from the scene. Time is of the essence here.

Q: 4. If I do not qualify to be an Assignment Photographer for Picture Stock, am I entitled to receive a refund for the application fee? Will I be reimbursed for the Press Pass?

A: Yes, we will refund your application fee in full if you do not qualify for whatever reason to be an Assignment Photographer for Picture Stock or if too many photographers are already registered in your area. We will also reimburse you for the cost of the press pass if you do not want the press pass on its own.

Q: 5. What will I receive if I am accepted as a Picture Stock Assignment Photographer?

A: Picture Stock will send you a letter of confirmation stating that you have been qualified and accepted to be one of our assignment photographers. Our assignment desk will contact you as soon as an assignment comes up for you and we will explain all the details at that time. We will also refund your application fee in full with your first photo assignment paycheck.

Q: 6. What happens if I am not available to cover an assignment and can I refuse to accept any assignments?

A: If you are not available to cover a photo assignment, we will go down our photographer availability list and assign another photographer. Yes, you can refuse to accept any assignment for whatever reason with no questions asked. This will not prevent you from being contacted in the future for other assignments.

Q: 7. How much advance notice will I receive before covering an assignment?

A: If we are calling you to cover an on-going spot news event, you must be able to drop everything you are doing immediately and proceed to the scene. If the assignment does not pertain to spot news, we usually call 3-7 days prior to the photo shoot.

Q: 8. Do I call your offices or send an e-mail if I want a photo assignment?

A: No. Please do not call or e-mail us. Our assignment desk editor will contact you when an assignment comes up for you in your area based on what you have provided on your 'Photo Assignment Application Form.'

Q: 9. Can I sign up for Photo Assignments only or am I required to submit images for stock sales first?

A: You are not required to submit any images if you do not wish to, however, it will help since we would see your shooting style from the images you submit. You must order a Picture Stock press pass when signing up for photo assignments.
